Jackals Trail Marathon

Welcome to the Jackals Trail Marathon taking you over the Darwen Moors terrain of the West Pennines.
Undertaking 4 x alternating ‘marked’ laps of the Jackals 10km (ish) trail loop with a 6 hour cut off to complete all 4 laps.
Our beautifully challenging 10km (ish) trail loop boasts 1400ft of ascent on the counter clockwise route… and a tough climb out on the clockwise route!
Each lap will see runners changing there bib number to make the event more fun and unique!
We hope lots of you give this a go! The bar will be open at the finish line and hot food served too as well as earning your Howler Bling!
Mandatory kit list
- Ultra running belt or backpack with the ability to hold 1L of fluids
- Hat and gloves
- Waterproof jackets with hood
- Fully charged mobile phone
- Suitable race wear
- Prescribed medication
- Map of route (OS 287)(GPX will also be emailed to registered runners on request)
On completion of each lap you will be issued a new bib number before you head out on the next lap. You MUST tear a page out of the book at the given location that matches your bib number and hand in at the finish line on each lap. Failure to do this will result in a DNF. You have been warned!
You will be required to bring a tinned food item with you to registration. This could be a tin of custard, rice pudding, jam, beans etc. Although it is replicating Laz’s Barkley Marathons… We intend to donate the tinned foods to the local food bank in Blackburn.
RACE DAY INFO
Start and finish at the Olde English Kiosk within Sunnyhurst Woods, Darwen, BB30LA. The trail will be very well signed and marshalled for your safety (NOTE.2018, some signs were removed on the course). From the startline, the trail gets steep, pretty quickly! So ensure you are conditioned to take on long, steep ascents!
Parking is minimal within Sunnyhurst woods, however, there is plenty of parking along Earnsdale road, next to the woods. Please be at the startline at 9.15am for a race brief.
Registration will take place at The Olde English Kiosk. There will also be a bag drop available at this location free of charge. Registration will be open from 8am. Remember your tinned food item.
Of course! And a hot stew at the end too!
If there is an emergency situation with a runner on the course, Bolton Mountain Rescue are on standby to extract.
Trail or Fell Trainers are an absolute must for this event.
2 laps must be completed within 3 hours to be able to continue to lap 3. There is a 6 hour total cut off.
Runners are permitted to listen to music but we ask you only have 1 earbud in so you are able to hear any instructions from marshalling staff.
FOOD & DRINK
There will be a water station on the route. Should you require more water on route, we advise you carry it with you. There will be a hot meal at the finish line after your race. There is also a licenced bar that will be open! We hope you stay and have a drink with us afterwards!
TOILETS & CHANGING
There are toilets near to the startline. There will be no change facillities.
TRANSFER & REFUNDS
Unfortunately we do not offer refunds however, runners may transfer there number to someone else upto 28 Feb 2020.
